Butte, Montana

Once the largest city in the Rocky Mountains, Butte takes its name from a large conical hill to the north-west. The town itself gained the epithet “richest hill on Earth” thanks to its mining operations of gold, silver and copper during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, the city is the 5th largest in Montana by population.
