Charlo, Montana

Named for a Salish Chief in 1918, Charlo was previously known as Big Flat, Charlotte and Tabor. As part of the Flathead Valley Reservation, it borders several protected areas, including the Herak Waterfowl Production area and Ninepipes Reservoir. Along with seasonal flood irrigation, these protected areas provide habitats for various native fauna including white tail deer, pheasants, bald eagles, and western painted turtles.
