Shelby is located near the center of the "Golden Triangle", Montana's richest irrigated and non-irrigated wheat and barley region. The Golden Triangle produces 70% of the barley and 60% of the wheat in Montana. Situated 35 miles south of the international boundary between Canada and the United States, Shelby is also located on the Interstate Highway 15, the main highway into Canada servicing Lethbridge and Calgary.
